Personal budgeting · invite-only

Know what's left to spend, bills included.

UnderBudget brings in your bank transactions, sorts them with rules you set, and counts the recurring bills that haven't hit yet, so the number you see is what you can actually spend this month.

How it works

From bank to budget in three steps

Set it up once. After that, most of your month is categorized, matched to its bill and counted for you.

  1. 1

    Bring in your transactions

Link your bank through SimpleFIN Bridge and new transactions arrive on their own. No bank to link? Import an Excel file or add them by hand.

    Add transactions

    • From your bankSimpleFIN Bridge
    • Import a spreadsheet.xlsx or .xls
    • Add by handCash, anything missed
  2. 2

    Review before anything lands

Bank transactions wait in a review queue with categories filled in by your rules. Likely duplicates and charges that look recurring are flagged, and you confirm before anything is saved.

    Plan around what's coming

Recurring rules know each bill's schedule and cost, so your budget bars, pace and per-day amount already allow for the bills that haven't been charged yet.

Security

Built for money you care about

UnderBudget holds bank-linked financial data, so it's careful about what it stores and who can see it.

  • Your bank login never touches UnderBudget

Banks connect through SimpleFIN Bridge, a small paid service that works with most US banks and credit unions. You sign in to your bank there, not here.

  • Bank access is encrypted

The access link SimpleFIN issues is encrypted before it's stored and is only ever used on the server. It never reaches your browser.

  • Only you can see your data

Every table is locked to its owner by the database itself, so one account can never read another's transactions.

  • AI only when you ask

Rules, pace and bill projections run without AI. AI Auto-Categorize and rule suggestions send transaction descriptions and amounts to Anthropic only when you click them.

  • Invite-only

Accounts are created by invitation. Invited? Open the link in your invitation email to set your password.

Questions

Good to know

The short answers. The guides have the rest.

Who can use UnderBudget?

Accounts are invite-only for now. If you've been invited, open the link in your invitation email to set your password, then sign in. Anyone can try the demo.

What's in the demo?

A budget, about three months of history, recurring bills with rules, a review queue and sample accounts, all yours to explore and change. AI features and bank linking are turned off, and the whole demo is deleted after 24 hours (or when you choose Exit demo).

Do I have to link a bank?

No. You can import an Excel file or add transactions by hand. Linking a bank through SimpleFIN Bridge just saves the typing: new transactions arrive in your review queue on their own.

Which banks work?

Whatever SimpleFIN Bridge supports, which covers most US banks and credit unions. SimpleFIN is a separate service with its own small subscription. It refreshes from your bank about once a day.

Does UnderBudget move money?

No. It only reads balances and transactions so you can budget with them. It can't make payments or transfers.
